Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go;
give the command to save me for you are my rock and my fortress.

Cherubim

According to the dictionary in the back of my bible, the definition of a cherub is 'an angel, with an appearance something like a human being. There are several verses found in the bible about cherubim; most of them are found in Ezekiel but there are others scattered throughout God's word. Exodus 25:18-20 says 'And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at the two ends. The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover.' These were the instructions given to Moses for the building of the Ark of the Covenant. So this shows that they were a symbolism of sorts... that they also were very holy to be on the lid of the place where the Lord our God dwelled.

Though the verse that I just shared is about what they used models of cherubim as, in Ezekiel, there are very valuable descriptions of what the cherubim look like. If you go to Ezekiel 1:6-11, it reads, 'but each of them had four faces and four wings. Their legs were straight; their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed like burnished bronze. Under their wings on their four sides they had the hands of a man. All four of them had faces and wings, and their wings touched one another. Each one went straight ahead; they did not turn as the moved. Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a man, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left, the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle. Such were their faces. Their wings were spread out upward; each had two wings, on touching the wing of another creature on either side, and two wings covering it's body.' Isn't that amazing?! I'm sure that if I saw something as magnificent as that, I would fall immediately to the ground. That is just a little more proof that our Lord is too holy for our eyes to behold.

The Importance of a Healthy Relationship

There is a great importance in having a healthy relationship with the father. It is almost like a relationship with an earthly companion. If you want to know that person very intimately you must spend time and relate with them. It is the same way with your heavenly relationship with the father, the son, and the holy spirit. Although it may feel a little bit awkward at first to talk to a spirit that you cannot see, God will reveal himself to you gradually if you are faithful in your relationship. There are several scriptures in reference to relationships with him! One that I love is found in Ephesians 2:22: 'And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.'

Another is found in 1 John 3: 1-2: 'How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.'

Yet another is located in James 2:23. It says: 'And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend.' Imagine that! To be called God's friend would be the ultimate reward. This might mean different things to different people... for example, to me, that would mean that it would mean that God was pleased with me and that he enjoyed what I was doing, while, to another, this scripture could mean something entirely different.

How do we develop a healthy relationship? By spending time with him in his word! Reading the bible, praying, and worshiping him are all ways that our relationship can become more intimate. What does intimate mean you may ask? According to the dictionary, intimate means to be associated in close personal relations. From this definition, intimacy could be towards God and our humanly companions.

Of course, humanly companions are fine. There is nothing in the bible that says otherwise. The bible does say, however, what kind of people you should be friends with. If you spend time with people that are not walking with God or are even doing things that they shouldn't, then you may start to feel that it would be alright if you do these things. But, on the other hand, if you spend time with people who are faithful with their companionship with the Lord, you will start to feel that you have a duty that you must fulfill.

Having this feeling is actually a good thing, though, since now you will start to understand that there are others who will go this with you and encourage you! Start developing a healthy relationship with Him today!
